Are you a fan of TikTok? Well, you’re not alone! According to recent surveys, being a social media influencer is one of the top career choices for adolescents and young adults. And one professor at Duke University is helping students turn that dream into a reality – all for college credit!
Dr. Aaron Dinin, a Lecturing Fellow at Duke University, is teaching students the science and methodology behind building a successful online following. Dubbed the “TikTok class” by Bloomberg, Dinin’s students range from fashion influencers to basketball players. Some start with just a few thousand followers, while others have hundreds of thousands.
And the results are impressive! “One student I worked with increased his followership from about 15,000 to about 115,000 during the class,” said Dinin. “This semester, we’re seeing staggering growth rates and we’re not even halfway done. One student even gained 100,000 followers in a single week. It’s incredible to see the followers people can attract once they understand the best strategies for creating social media content.”

But it’s not just about becoming the next big influencer. Dinin believes that understanding social media and social selling is essential for success in today’s corporate marketing world. “My students will be entering a modern corporate marketing world that will require a deep understanding of social media and social selling to raise awareness for their businesses, products, and causes,” he said.
And it’s not just his students who can benefit from Dinin’s expertise. He plans to help enterprises and individuals outside of the university capitalize on influencer marketing campaign best practices. “It’s important to share this knowledge and give more people access to this important skill set,” he said.
So if you’re interested in building a global online following and potentially becoming the next big influencer, maybe it’s time to enroll in the “TikTok class” at Duke University. Who knows, you could be the next big thing on social media!
